Does it work with two of us? And with eight?
The games are made to work as well with two players as with twenty. Playing on your own works too, though it isn’t what the tour was built for — the games turn on what happens between you. With small teams, some games add attempts from other players so the guessing doesn’t get too easy.
Which language is the tour in?
The tour itself is in Dutch: the story, the narration and the fun facts are all Dutch, and so are the games. This page and the booking are in English, but the afternoon you play is not — the two audio samples further up are exactly what you'd hear.
So it works if someone in your team reads Dutch well enough to play along and translate as you go. If nobody does, this is not the right afternoon for you yet — an English version is something we want to make, and it does not exist today.
Does everyone need their own phone?
You don’t have to, but it’s better if you do: everyone installs the app on their own phone with the same code, so everyone navigates along and plays on their own screen. Sharing one device works well too — you just pass it around during the games.
Will everyone be staring at their phones the whole time?
The navigation, the story and the fun facts can all be listened to, so none of those ask you to look at a screen. The games are played on your phone, but they are built to make you look at your surroundings more closely — the spot-the-difference game, for instance. We see the phone as a way to make the walk better and the city more vivid, not as the point of the afternoon.
What age is this fun from?
The tour is made for children aged 8 and up, but younger kids can definitely play along, especially if they enjoy games.
What if it rains?
Ugh, annoying. But we won’t melt, will we? Joking aside: you can always pause the tour and take shelter for a bit. Or, if you’re still at home, simply decide to go another day.
What if we don’t enjoy it?
After two stops (about 20 minutes) you know whether this is your kind of afternoon. Not fun yet? Stop, send us a WhatsApp on +31 6 44611309, and you get your money back. That’s our fun guarantee.
Will teenagers enjoy this too?
This tour was tested by teenagers. The answer, happily, is ‘yes’. All the games are built so they work for children, for teenagers, and for the adults.
Can we do this as a birthday party or with a bigger group?
Absolutely. Choose "Group booking" at checkout and pick the number of teams. If you like, the teams can compete against each other in one shared lobby — that works well when all the grandmas, grandpas, uncles, aunts and cousins come along, or for a birthday party.
Do I need internet? How much data does it use?
An internet connection isn’t required — the tour works without one — but it’s more fun with. In some games you get to see what other players did, and that isn’t possible offline.
What some teams do is set up a hotspot so the other phones can use the internet.
Data usage is low: count on roughly 2 MB per tour per phone.
Is it worth bringing earphones or headphones?
You certainly can, and the advantage is that you don’t have to hold your phone. But a phone was built to be held to your ear in the first place, so without earphones it works perfectly well too.
Can I give this as a gift?
You can! Email hi@tinymelon.nl and we’ll sort out a gift card for you.
Can I cancel?
As long as the tour hasn’t started, you can always cancel. If you’ve already started it, get in touch and we’ll work out together what we can do.
Can I pause, or carry on another day?
Yes. You can pause at any point — for an ice cream, a shower of rain or the rest of the day — and pick up right where you left off later, including on another day.
